HOW TO GET TO IZOLA

BY AIR

1. FROM TRIESTE AIRPORT (Ronchi dei Legionari)

• Bus transfers from Trieste Airport to Trieste: see the timetable at www.aptgorizia.it/sez_aeroporto.php . One way trip takes 50-60 minutes. Tickets are sold in Airport, not on bus.

• Busses from Trieste to Izola on weekdays start at 9:00, 11:00, 12:30, 15:30, 17:00. There are more busses from Trieste to Koper (12 km from Izola). See timetable for busses from Koper to Izola at www.slo-istra.com/i&i/koper.html . There are no busses available from Trieste to Izola (or any other Slovene city) on Sunday.

2. FROM LJUBLJANA AIRPORT (Brnik)

• Bus transfers from Ljubljana Airport to Ljubljana: see the timetable at the airport web site. One way trip takes 45 minutes. Tickets are sold on the bus.

• Busses from Ljubljana to Izola: see timetable at the Ljubljana Bus Station web site www.ap-ljubljana.si . You can travel from Ljubljana to Izola also using the train to Koper (7 km from Izola) and then continuing with the bus.See timetable for busses from Koper to Izola at www.slo-istra.com/i&i/koper.html .

There are two suitable airports available for travelling to Izola, Ljubljana airport Brnik and Trieste (Italy) airport Ronchi Dei legionari.

Arrival via Ljubljana airport (distance from Izola 130 km):
The Ljubljana airport Brnik lies 23 km NW from Ljubljana and has regular lines with all main European cities.
There is a regular bus connection from Brnik airport to Ljubljana.
From Ljubljana you can take a bus to Izola or a train to Koper and then a bus or a taxi to Izola (15 km)

Arrival via Trieste airport (distance from Izola 40 km):
There are regular bus connections from Trieste bus station to Izola except on Sundays.

 

By CAR

Arriving from Austria (via Vienna/Graz), the first major city in Slovenia is Maribor. After ~50 km, you pass Celje and continue towards Ljubljana. From here on, follow the Postojna/Koper signs. The motorway has several toll collection gates; the drive from the Austrian border to the end of the motorway at Koper is about 11 EUR. The last toll gate is about 20 km before Koper.

Arriving from Hungary, you can either connect to the Austrian motorways or alternatively pass the Balaton Lake and reach Slovenia near the town of Lendava. Follow the Maribor (alternative road: Celje / Ljubljana) signs. The shortest connection is to the motorway near Maribor; from there on, follow the description above).

Arriving from Germany / Austria (via Karavanke Tunnel), you will first come to Jesenice. Continue past Kranj and Ljubljana (one drive-through toll gate on road, ~1.60 EUR). From Ljubljana, follow the Postojna and (after Postojna) Koper signs (toll gates: first collect the card, pay ~ 4,50 EUR on exit).

Arriving from/via Italy: reach Trieste and follow the SLO - Capodistria/Koper signs. [Attention: not all SLO signs would lead you to Koper directly; there are some border crossings to the North of Trieste which connect to the motorway near Sezana or near Kozina.] You shall pass the border crossing at  Rabuiese/Skofije and continue to Koper.

BY TRAIN
There are two suitable railway stations available for travelling to Izola: Koper and Trieste (Italy).
